Yake 0.4.0 'Kestrel' released |
The 0.4.0 release is available for download.
Source packages for PC/Windows and PC/Linux are available. Prebuilt binaries of all dependencies are available for use with MSVC7.1.
Please report any problems using either the bugtracker or the forums.
A list of the changes can be found here: Yake 0.4 'Kestrel' release.
The most important change is the reactivation of the data-driven vehicle simulation component. This is an extremely flexible tool in quickly creating complex airborne and/or ground and/or space vehicle designs. Two basic demos using the raf framework are included. |

Update (09 Oct 2005): The vehicle system is now data-driven. The
demo constructs a jet using a template consisting of several mount
points and thrusters. Ground vehicle support is in the works as well as
easy data-driven linking of graphics elements (even complete .scene
objects) to vehicle parts.
Refactored yake::vehicle component
A first version including a demo is available in the source code
repository (SVN: trunk). The demo demonstrates how to assemble a jet
with various directed mount points and attached thrusters within a few
lines of code. The dotVehicle interface will reworked now to work with
the new format and a car demo is still in the pipeline. The rewritten
component is quite flexible (any number of mount points, wheels,
engines, axles etc; pluggable physics backends, e.g. for raycast wheels
or sphere/hinge2 wheels; and more) and complex vehicles can soon be
modelled via data files again.
Physics core and plugin improvements
Thanks go out to mj and TV4Fun for several patches improving the
current implementation of the Novodex and ODE based plugins as well as
the physics component implementation itself. For example, the powerful
affector zone features can now be tested, and mass calculations for
shapes have been improved. If I take a look at the pending patches, I
see that more changes are to come.
Linux compatibility
... has been improved again. Yake builds at least with GCC 3.4.x and
4.0.2. For more details and the latest information visit the
compatibility chart page in the wiki. |

boost 1.33.0
We now switched to the latest boost library. Yake code wasn't affected
in any noticeable way. If you're code is affected then read the porting
notes on boost.org. The VC7.1(2003) dependencies package for Yake 0.4 will include all the necessary files as usual.
physicsNX plugin and Novodex Physics Engine 2.2
Thanks to a patch by Joel Croteau the physicsNX plugin has now been
ported for use with the Novodex Physics Engine 2.2 instead of the older
2.1.2 release (which people had a hard time to get hold of). |
