No matter which engine is used, the vehicle simulation is always not satisfying to me. The only impressive vehicle physics I have seen are in TrueAxis. I think that the whole idea of using spherical tyres sucks. They are very difficult to control and are unperdictable and not suited for commercial action games.

I prefer using rays for wheels. But im not sure that if true-axis also uses Rays instread of Spheres for wheels. Anyway TrueAxis also allows to trade off b/w simulation and fun, and is easier to embed with a simple steering AI.

Rays for wheels works great and is very controllable. OTOH, people have successfully created commercial games with spheres as wheels.

Both approaches have nothing to do with TrueAxis however good their implementation might be. It's not exactly rocket science.
